ANAHEIM : Landlord Gets Jail Term for Violations
An Orange County Municipal Court judge has ordered an Anaheim landlord to serve a 30-day jail term for failing to adequately maintain his property.
Dat Ba Nguyen, 29, pleaded guilty last week to charges that he violated the city’s public nuisance laws by failing to paint one of his buildings, leaving it open to dry rot and termite infestation, said Anaheim code enforcement supervisor Richard La Rochelle.
Judge Martin Hairbedian in the Fullerton Municipal Court placed Nguyen on three years’ probation and ordered him to immediately bring his six Anaheim properties up to city codes, according to Mark Logan, senior assistant city attorney.
In three separate inspections last year, code enforcement officers cited Nguyen for 30 violations for unsanitary conditions on his properties, including dry rot, inadequate roofing and failure to install smoke detectors. Nguyen’s properties are at 801, 904 and 909 E. Balsam Ave.; 723 and 729 W. Bywood Ave., and 711 W. Hall Ave., Logan said.
Nguyen’s jail term begins May 20. His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
