Sen. Durenberger to Stand Trial on Aug. 16

WASHINGTON — Sen. Dave Durenberger (R-Minn.) will go on trial Aug. 16 on charges that he abused his Senate expense account.
U.S. District Judge Stanley Harris set the date Friday and scheduled two weeks for the trial. Congress is scheduled to be in a monthlong recess at the time.
Durenberger is accused of hiding his ownership in a Minneapolis condominium to collect $3,825 in Senate reimbursements for nights he spent there. He is charged with making false claims to the Senate and with conspiring to make false claims.
