Summer Registration Begins at 3 Colleges
Registration for summer sessions at Ventura County’s three community colleges begins today, with continuing students having priority over new enrollees at two of the three campuses.
At Ventura College, new and continuing students can register for any of three sessions between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, choosing from more than 240 classes being offered in about 30 different majors.
“We try to offer the most popular classes and especially the general ed (courses),” said spokesman Gerry Olsen. “They’re mostly aimed at four-year college students who are coming back to pick up special requirements or lower-division classes.”
But there also is a series of courses designed for people interested in broadening their skills, Olsen said.
“There’s a heavy emphasis in the summer on computer classes,” he said. “A lot of people are interested in becoming computer-literate and the summer is an ideal time for that.”
Students continuing at Oxnard College can register Monday through Thursday, but first-time students must wait until Wednesday to sign up.
Oxnard College will offer two six-week sessions, beginning May 23 and June 20.
At Moorpark College, walk-in registration begins Thursday for continuing students, but first-timers must wait until May 17. Any Moorpark College student, however, can register by mail for the three summer sessions, which begin May 23, June 13 and July 5.
Classes cost $13 per unit, plus a $7 health fee.
