Irvine : UCI Asian Groups Host Heritage Week

UC Irvine’s Asian/Pacific Student Assn. is celebrating Asian Heritage Week through Thursday with various events at the student center.

The 9-year-old festival’s theme this year is “Tying the Cultural Ribbon.” The festival will focus on bringing together UCI’s 15 Asian American cultural groups, said student association President Eileen Chun. The festival features food booths and exhibits as well as performances.

Peter Bacho, author of the novel “Cebu,” will speak at 7:30 tonight in Crystal Cove Auditorium. Admission is $5. Performances by the Cambodian Student Organization and Chinese Assn. will be held in front of the student center from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

On Wednesday, “The Joy Luck Club” will be shown in the student center TV lounge at 7:30 p.m., and the Iranian Culture Club will perform music outside the center at 11 a.m.

On Thursday, the Filipino Club, Indian Sub-Continental Club and Phi Zeta Tau will perform dances and skits beginning at 11 a.m. outside the student center.
