A $25,000 reward was posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in the slaying of an elderly Studio City man, Los Angeles City Councilman John Ferraro said Tuesday.

Rupert Thompson, 73, was severely beaten before he was shot during a nighttime burglary at his home Jan. 26. His wife, Dorothy, 70, survived a gunshot wound to the chest. She tearfully told reporters that she woke up to the sound of breaking glass shortly after 1 a.m.

When she switched on the light, she found a gunman at the foot of the bed she shared with her husband. “I remember falling, but I did not hear my husband get shot,” she said, her voice cracking. “(The gunman) thought I was dead. I feel like half of a pair, and my life has been nothing but doctors and therapists.”

The council offered the reward at Ferraro’s request.

“Nothing has been happening on this case,” Ferraro said. “(The police) felt (a reward) would get it some attention.”
