AVALON : City Council Selects Interim Member

Share

An interim City Council member has been appointed to fill the seat vacated when Ralph J. Morrow Jr. was elected mayor last week, but Avalon voters will return to the polls in the fall to fill the seat permanently.

Scott Nelson, 40, who came in third in a race for two City Council seats, will fill the position until the Nov. 8 statewide election, when voters will elect a council member to serve the remaining two years of Morrow’s four-year term.

Nelson, a businessman, was selected unanimously after the new council was seated Tuesday night.

“(The council) did a lot of research around town and the majority of opinion was (to) just appoint the third-highest vote-getter,” City Clerk Shirley Davy said.
