On Sunday, Rosa Parks will discuss her book “Rosa Parks: My Story” at a charity event in Beverly Hills.

Parks became known as the “mother of the civil rights movement” for her refusal in 1955 to give up her seat to a white man on a bus in Montgomery, Ala. Her arrest and conviction for violating segregation laws led to a bus boycott in Montgomery that galvanized the civil rights movement nationwide.

Parks is scheduled to speak during a brunch at 11 a.m. at the Hotel Nikko. Tickets are $100 and include a copy of Parks’ autobiography. Reservations are required. Proceeds will benefit the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development and the Martin Luther King Jr. General Hospital Foundation, both in Los Angeles.
