THOUSAND OAKS : Residents Sought for Aging, Youth Panels

Share

Thousand Oaks City Council members are looking for residents older than 59 and younger than 20 to serve on two advisory committees: the Council on Aging and the Youth Commission.

Both groups meet regularly to plan programs for their target constituents. From organizing dances to seeking funds for a subsidized taxi service, the committees undertake several projects a year.

Council on Aging members, who serve two-year terms, must be residents of Thousand Oaks and at least 60 years old. Applications for the five available seats are due May 5, but the deadline may be extended, City Clerk Nancy Dillon said.

The Youth Commission has six vacancies, to be filled by students representing Thousand Oaks’ three public high schools plus private schools and intermediate schools. The deadline for applications is May 12.

Applications are also available for six seats on the Conejo Substance Abuse Prevention Authority Advisory Committee.

The panel works to educate residents about drug and alcohol abuse and to provide resources for people seeking help. The group reports to an independent board of directors, not to the Thousand Oaks City Council.

An early May deadline for substance abuse committee applications has been extended indefinitely, Dillon said. Members serve three-year terms.
