SADDLEBACK/SOUTH BEACH : Soccer Program for Disabled Children

Sign-ups will be held Saturday for developmentally challenged youngsters who want to play soccer.

The American Youth Soccer Organization’s VIP program will accept all children, regardless of handicap, providing that they are ambulatory.

Sign-ups will take place at Newhart Elementary School, 24001 Oso Viejo in Mission Viejo between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The soccer league is tailored for children who would be overmatched on a team with players who are not handicapped. The score is not kept, and rules are simplified.

Participants in the VIP program have spotters who help guide them on the soccer field.

Children who live in the South County area from the El Toro Y to San Clemente are eligible if born before Jan. 30, 1990. Proof of age is required for all new players.

The registration fee is $55 per player with a maximum charge of $150 per family. A non-refundable registration fee of $15 is included.
