One of Latin America’s most renowned novelists will speak Monday at Chapman University, officials said.

Carlos Fuentes will speak on “The Creative Spirit as a Force for Humanism,” Chapman spokesman Jeff Coulter said. Fuentes is known for books including “The Old Gringo” and “The Death of Artemio Cruz.”

Fuentes has been named Chapman’s Distinguished Writer for 1994. The Distinguished Writer series brings well-known authors to the Chapman campus to discuss their work, Coulter said.
