BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Langston Already Testing Elbow

Pitcher Mark Langston, recovering quicker than the Angels had hoped, threw in the bullpen Thursday for the first time since his elbow surgery April 12.

“If there are no setbacks, I’ll definitely come back before six weeks,” Langston said. “I want to get back as quickly as I can. The faster I can get through this, the better off I’ll be because my arm will still be strong.”

Langston said he experienced some inflammation after the operation but no pain. He reported no problems after throwing for 10 minutes.

“I can’t believe how good I feel,” he said. “Every day I can do something different than the day before. I can even comb my hair now, and put mousse in the right spots.”

The Angels sent a psychiatrist from their employee-assistance program to visit Vancouver second baseman Kevin Flora, whose wife was killed a year ago today in a car accident.

Flora, who has not played since the third game of the season because of his emotional difficulties, was receptive to the visit from Tim Allen, according to Flora’s agent.

“Kevin knows the door is open to him if he needs help, and appreciates the Angels’ concern,” Bill Moore said.

Joe Magrane, who’s scheduled to rejoin the pitching rotation by May 6, yielded five hits and an earned run in six innings Wednesday night in his second rehabilitative assignment for Class-A Lake Elsinore. He threw 62 strikes in 84 pitches.
