Music Grants Awarded
Violinist Michi Wiancko of San Clemente and pianist Cory Yeh of Mission Viejo, both 17, received $800 grants from the 1994 B. Douglas Sawtelle Music Scholarship Competition sponsored by the Orange County Musicians’ Assn. Local No. 7 of the American Federation of Musicians.
Receiving $300 grants each are William Murillo, 19, a trumpet student at Cal State Fullerton; pianist Chaiying Lee, 18, of Fountain Valley, and Fang-Fang Shi, 20, a piano student at Chapman University in Orange. Pianist Charles Michael Liu, 17, of Irvine, was awarded $200. Clarinetist Robert Coracevich, 20, saxophonist Rodolfo Hernandez, 21, and bassist Danton Boller, 21, each received $100.
Saxophonist Bill Martinez, 24, was awarded the $500 Mick Price Memorial award for jazz.
Winners will give a free recital on May 10 at 7 p.m. in Santa Ana. (714) 546-8166.
