HUNTINGTON BEACH : OCTA Urged to Keep Dial-A-Ride Service

Saying that many senior citizens depend on Dial-A-Ride service, the City Council has passed a resolution urging the Orange County Transportation Authority not to reduce that form of transportation.

The OCTA is proposing to discontinue Dial-A-Ride’s door-to-door service for senior citizens. The proposal, scheduled to be voted on by the OCTA next month, would be effective in June.

Huntington Beach officials are opposing the proposed cutback.

In a resolution unanimously approved this week, the council said the loss of Dial-A-Ride “will impact the senior population of our city who have physical limitations and will create safety issues.”

Councilman David Sullivan said he had talked to many residents of the city “and they are extremely concerned.”

He charged that the transportation authority is not fully considering the impact of its proposed cutback. “This is very shortsighted on the part of people at OCTA,” Sullivan said.
