The get-well wishes poured in for Patrick Roy, but there was no indication Friday whether the star goaltender would be back in time to save the Montreal Canadiens from playoff elimination.

Roy remained in the hospital for a second day after doctors postponed a decision on whether to remove his aching appendix.

“Patrick’s condition is much improved,” the Canadiens announced in a statement. “He has resumed eating and will remain in hospital for an additional 24 hours observation and intravenous antibiotics treatment.”

A team of doctors will decide whether to operate, which would sideline Roy for about two weeks.

But even if the antibiotics control the swelling, Coach Jacques Demers said it is unlikely Roy will be able to play tonight in Game 4 of Montreal’s playoff series against Boston. The Bruins lead, 2-1.

“If he had got out of hospital, I’d be optimistic,” Demers said. “But he’s still on intravenous. I’ve told (backup goaltender) Ron Tugnutt he’s playing.”
