Lopez, ’84 Silver Medalist, to Fight Sequenan
Hector Lopez, the 1984 Olympic silver medalist who has steadied his career after several bouts with the law and drug abuse, says that his fight against Rod Sequenan tonight at the Olympic Auditorium will be very different from the Oscar De La Hoya-Jimmi Bredahl chase-and-run bout that opened the building.
“It won’t be like when those two girls fought March 5,” Lopez said.
Lopez (25-3-1, 12 knockouts), known for his aggressive fighting style, is the No. 9-ranked junior-welterweight in the World Boxing Council.
Lopez, 27, was suspended for testing positive for drug use after a fight last summer and went through a drug-rehabilitation program.
He since has lost a decision to Russian Konstantin Tszyu in January and sparred with Rafael Ruelas in helping to prepare Ruelas for his victory over International Boxing Federation lightweight champion Freddie Pendleton in February.
Sequenan, 33, is 56-22-5 with 32 knockouts.
