New Pitches for Use of El Toro MCAS

Share

* Here’s an idea to solve some of Orange County’s most pressing problems at once. Use the El Toro Air Base to build a new state-of-the-art ballpark for the Angels a la Baltimore’s successful Camden Yards.

The setting would be beautiful with the Saddleback Mountains towering over the outfield. Pay for it with a countywide tax on alcohol and cigarettes. It has been done elsewhere.

Then Anaheim could refurbish the “Big A” to keep the Rams and make it a better stadium for football fans. Just the construction alone on these projects would pump up the economy for North and South County alike.

* Re: The final solution for the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station: As the countless suggestions and ideas are being considered, there is one very predictable course of action, some might eventually say a course of no action.

Immediately designate the Irvine City Council as the supreme administrator over El Toro MCAS. The City Council will immediately hold countless meetings, while putting various city departments in charge to coordinate all the activities at all the meetings.

Along the way the council will vote for many options and at subsequent meetings will vote to change the votes at the previously held meetings.

The City Council and city bureaucrats “own the process,” so whatever citizens’ suggestions are put forth will be overruled by a city-hired outside guru-expert, who will only attend the one meeting that he conducts. The outside guru-expert will then put forth a consensus by having citizens do pencil drawings and finger paintings while searching for the best possible plan. The so called consensus is actually the dictate of the outside guru-expert.

The reason this is such an excellent plan: While all the countless meetings are being held, absolutely nothing will happen. The El Toro MCAS will just lie fallow and rot, with no jails, no airport, no housing development.

The very best part is that all the meeting activity will only take at least 10 years to provide no decisions and hence absolutely no problems! This time projection is verified by the City Council’s and city bureaucrats’ previous and present track record.

The citizens of Northwood, especially the ones living along the abandoned railroad right-of-way, will be most pleased to let you know what 10 years of City Council meetings have provided for Northwood. Namely a number of frustrated citizens who some day might get off their couches and get rid of Irvine’s incumbent politicians like Tustin did in their last election.
