GARDEN GROVE : Grant to Help Pay for Systems Upgrade

Share

The city will receive a $120,000 state grant to help pay for the cost of improving the lighting and air conditioning systems at City Hall and the police and fire stations.

The money will come from the $304 million that the state has received so far from a fund created by oil companies to pay back overcharges to U.S. consumers from 1973 to 1981, officials said.

The state legislature recently approved the grant through the efforts of Assemblyman Tom Umberg (D-Garden Grove).

“I can think of no better use for these funds than to upgrade or replace outdated, energy-wasteful systems,” Umberg said in a statement.

The money will cover the cost of a new and more energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning system that will save the city about $35,000 a year, city administrative analyst George A. Skelton said.
