Praise the Lard : How to Make Real Lard

Share

You know that home-rendered lard is better than what you can find at most stores, but you can’t imagine doing it yourself? There’s really almost nothing to it.--First, cut cold fat into evenly sized pieces (Step 1). Spread cubed fat in a single layer over the bottom of a roasting pan (Step 2). Bake at low heat (about 250 degrees) until fat renders and cubes turn brown and crispy (Step 3). Finally, drain crispy cracklings on paper towels and strain rendered fat into container (Step 4). No problem.
