Share

The annual horse trail fund-raiser for the Fran Joswick Therapeutic Riding Center will be held on Saturday.

It’s an opportunity to experience the scenic trails of San Juan Capistrano on horseback and help out the Joswick Center, which uses horses in a therapy program designed to help people recover from debilitating injuries.

The program starts at 8:30 a.m. and will also feature art, food and game booths, as well as refreshments. People wishing to take a trail ride during the fund-raiser must reserve them by calling (714) 240-8441.

Craig Powers, an on-air personality for radio KIK-FM, will present awards to horse show winners and sign autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The center is at 26282 Oso Road.

The event is a major fund-raiser for the Joswick Center, a nonprofit group that survives largely through the generosity of South County communities.

The center gives children and adults, some of whom use wheelchairs, a chance to be lifted onto the back of a horse and learn basic riding techniques.

Center officials say the horse rides are an important therapy tool that has helped many physically challenged people in its 16 years of existence.
