CAMARILLO : City OKs Residential Project for Orchard

Share

The Camarillo City Council has unanimously approved a proposal to turn an aging lemon orchard on the city’s west side into a development of 302 residences and an 18-hole semi-public golf course.

The Planning Commission had unanimously approved the proposal from Camarillo-based Knightsbridge Holdings Inc. earlier this month. In voting for the project during its meeting Wednesday, the City Council credited the developer for making the 236-acre site compatible with the neighborhood.

“The developer did a real good job in preparing this project,” Mayor Ken Gose said. “They worked well with the neighbors and that in turn headed off any potential problems.”

The site of the housing development and golf course is near Beardsley and Wright roads. Once completed, the development will feature 207 single-family houses and 95 condominiums.

Knightsbridge officials could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The development came before the council because the lemon orchard, which has not been actively farmed since August, had to be rezoned for residential use.
