The Rams’ 1994 regular-season schedule was released by the NFL Thursday and includes Oct. 23 and Dec. 4 matchups against the New Orleans Saints and their new quarterback, former Ram Jim Everett.

The Rams play at New Orleans Oct. 23 and play host to the Saints Dec. 4 at Anaheim Stadium. The Rams traded Everett, their quarterback for the last eight seasons, to the Saints in March for a 1995 seventh-round draft pick.

The Rams, 5-11 last season, open their 16-game schedule Sept. 4 at home against the Phoenix Cardinals and new Coach Buddy Ryan.

“It’s nice to open the season at home,” Ram Coach Chuck Knox said. “Last year we played three out of our first four on the road.”

Asked about the two games against the Saints, and the matchup with Everett, Knox said: “I didn’t even look at that. That’s a long way off.”

The Rams close the season with a Saturday, Dec. 24 home game against the Washington Redskins. Other home games are against the Raiders, the New York Giants, Denver Broncos and NFC West Division rivals Atlanta and San Francisco. The Rams will wear jerseys from their 1951 season and the 49ers from their 1955 team in their Sept. 18 game in Anaheim in tribute to the 75th anniversary of the NFL.

The Rams’ schedule also includes an ESPN Sunday night game Nov. 20 at San Francisco and a game at San Diego the following week. Other road games are against Atlanta, Kansas City, Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Chicago.

The team plans to invoke its 15-month escape clause in its Anaheim Stadium lease on Tuesday and can begin entertaining offers from cities interested in NFL franchises, including Baltimore, St. Louis, Memphis. If the Rams accept an offer from another city, they could leave after next season.

The Rams on Thursday offered a one-year contract worth $500,000 to linebacker Joe Kelly, cut by the Raiders last week.

Steve Feldman, Kelly’s agent, said the linebacker will decide by this morning whether to accept the offer. Kelly was second on the Raiders in tackles last season with 103.
