Fabric Firm Pindler & Pindler Relocating to Moorpark

Pindler & Pindler Inc., a Redondo Beach firm that claims to be the West’s largest distributor of fine fabrics for the furniture and interior decorating industries, has purchased a building in Moorpark and plans to relocate to Ventura County early next month.

The move, scheduled to be completed by June 6, will bring 75 jobs to the county, according to Bill Crawford, Pindler’s executive vice president. He expects about half of the current employees to stay with the company, with the remainder being replaced by newly hired workers.

“We’ve already started hiring some new people in Ventura County,” Crawford said. “We’re training them in Redondo Beach so they’ll be ready to go to work as soon as we open the new plant.”

Crawford said Pindler & Pindler is leaving its present location because of the quality of the lifestyle and labor force in Ventura County. “We’ve been searching for the right building in Ventura County for two or three years. We needed something that could be used as a warehouse, distribution center and corporate headquarters.”

The company is acquiring a 75,000-square-foot structure on Poindexter Avenue, near the interchange of the Moorpark and Simi Valley freeways. Neither Pindler nor its broker, Daum Commercial Real Estate Services, would disclose the purchase price. The seller is Kenney Manufacturing Co., a distributor of mini-blinds and other window coverings that formerly occupied the building.

Pindler is a privately held concern that purchases fabrics for furniture, drapery, bedspreads and other uses from domestic and foreign mills. The fabrics, costing as much as $100 a yard, sometimes feature patterns created by Pindler’s designers. The company distributes the fabrics to furniture manufacturers and professional decorators who serve both residential and commercial clients.

Pindler & Pindler has a nationwide network of 12 showrooms, including one in the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. The firm does not disclose its revenues.

Pindler’s president, Curt Pindler, has already purchased a home in Ventura County, Crawford said.

For the first several months after the move, the company will use vans to shuttle employees from the Redondo Beach area to the Moorpark plant, Crawford added.
