Ventura County Sheriff Larry Carpenter and several deputies will don waiters’ attire today to raise money for the family of a colleague who died of cancer last month.

The fund-raiser for Sheriff’s Deputy John Russell Arthur will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today at Geppetto’s restaurant at 868 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

The price of all meals plus tips will be donated to Arthur’s wife, Cheryl, and their four children, ages 8 through 14. Arthur, who worked at the Camarillo station, died of lymphoma April 15. He was 37.

Detective Joe Braga said many deputies, as well as Carpenter, are expected to assist the restaurant’s staff by taking orders, serving food and clearing tables.

Geppetto’s is owned by Paul Burns, a former deputy who has hosted fund-raisers for law enforcement in the past.
