Police said Friday they will cite a 30-year-old Oxnard woman for allegedly making an unsafe U-turn in front of an Oxnard police officer, who was seriously injured when his motorcycle crashed into her van.

Humbelina Avalos, who had finished her night school class at Oxnard High School on Thursday evening, was making a U-turn on 5th Street when she turned in front of Officer Michael Zamore, who was riding behind her, said Officer Randey Cole.

Zamore, who was going about 35 m.p.h., suffered a crushed right foot in the crash, Cole said.

The 38-year-old officer was in fair condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center on Friday evening, authorities said.

Avalos received minor cuts and was treated and released from the hospital, police said.

Cole said police will cite Avalos for making an unsafe turn and being in the wrong lane for a U-turn. Both are considered infractions, Cole said.
