Share

Next week Community Build will open a free earthquake assistance center that will offer preparedness and counseling services for homeowners affected by the January earthquake.

The center, at 3428 W. 43rd St., will target its services to homeowners in the area bounded by Adams Boulevard on the north, Manchester Avenue on the south, Crenshaw Boulevard on the west and Vermont Avenue on the east.

Services will include identifying disaster assistance programs, earthquake preparedness workshops, reviewing earthquake-related repair contracts, verifying contractors’ licenses, bonds and workmanship, legal counseling; small-business loans and referrals, and in-home and office counseling.

The center is a joint venture of Community Build, a nonprofit corporation formed in 1992 to strengthen the economic infrastructure of the inner city, and Fannie Mae, a private financial services company that increases mortgage credit among low- and middle-income families.
