BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Braves’ Maddux Hit in Face by Line Drive
Atlanta Brave pitcher Greg Maddux suffered a deep bruise on his left cheek when he was hit by a foul ball, but is not expected to skip his next start.
Maddux was sitting in the Braves’ first-base dugout when he was struck by a line drive hit by the Montreal Expos’ Cliff Floyd in the eighth inning. Maddux was taken to a hospital for X-rays, which were negative.
Maddux is 5-2 with an 0.94 ERA in seven starts, and is trying this season to become the first pitcher to win three consecutive Cy Young awards. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against Philadelphia.
