A 28-year-old Anaheim man pushing his disabled car on Ball Road was fatally injured Monday by a suspected hit-and-run driver, police said.

Just after 5:30 a.m., Andres Garcia Lopez was pushing his disabled 1981 Oldsmobile eastbound in the slow lane on Ball Road when he was hit from behind near East Street by a 1986 Toyota, driven by Omar Vasquez, 23, of Orange, Sgt. Richard Buchholz said.

Lopez was crushed between the two vehicles, but his wife, Maira Maras, 24, who was steering the disabled car, was not injured, Buchholz said.

As Vasquez left the scene, driving slowly eastbound on Ball as a result of collision damage, a witness shouted at him to pull over, Buchholz said. After Vasquez pulled over, the witness parked in front of the suspect’s car until police arrived.

Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving and was booked into Anaheim City Jail.
