Share

Residents can get a peek inside the city’s fire stations as the Torrance Fire Department celebrates National Fire Service Day with an open house Saturday.

Besides being able to roam the city’s fire stations, the public may view paramedic units, hazardous-materials rigs and other firefighting equipment on display at Wilson Park. The department also will demonstrate the “jaws of life” equipment used to extract people trapped inside wrecked cars.

A rock ‘n’ roll band made up of firefighters from the South Bay will perform during the day, accompanied by dancer “Sparky the Fire Dog.”

The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park at 2200 Crenshaw Blvd.

Of the city’s six fire stations, only No. 3 is not participating in the open house because of work being done on the station.
