The Los Angeles City Council has agreed to pay $1.35 million to settle a lawsuit involving eight people who said police officers beat them up at a private party nearly seven years ago.

The altercation occurred outside a Mt. Washington apartment Sept. 13, 1987, when police ordered revelers in the street to move indoors.

Officers said some people started hurling bottles, but the eight plaintiffs, including a pregnant woman, said they were cooperative.

No officers were disciplined in connection with the incident, Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg said.

“There was not even an investigation because no personnel complaint was filed,” Goldberg said. “This was prior to the Christopher Commission,” formed after the Rodney G. King beating.

The plaintiffs were Bertha Naranjo, who was eight months pregnant, her husband, Aristeo Perez Camacho, her brother, Ruben Martinez, and five other men: Rogelio Avila, Hector Adrian Pineda, Jesus Salas, Rigoberto Rodriguez and Adeodato Varela Espinoza.
