VENTURA : Mother, Infant Left Homeless After Fire

Share

Investigators said they have not yet discovered what caused a two-alarm house fire that gutted a Ventura house and made homeless a mother and 15-month-old baby.

Dana Taylor and her daughter Vivian have received help from the Ventura County Chapter of the American Red Cross, officials said. They will stay at a motel until she can find an apartment, officials said.

Taylor was renting a house in the 600 block of Sheridan Way when it caught fire Wednesday evening, authorities said. Neighbors tried to put out the fire by breaking windows and opening doors, but that only caused the fire to spread more quickly, authorities said.

Firefighters thought the baby was in the house and searched it twice. Taylor and her daughter returned from the grocery store to a home charred by fire.

Property loss was estimated at $90,000 and content loss at $25,000, authorities said.
