A suspect has been arrested in the carjacking murder of a father of three in Willowbrook, and the victim’s classic lowrider car has been recovered, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Monday.

Detectives responding to an anonymous tip arrested Leland Chambers, 31, as he attempted to drive the stolen 1970 Chevrolet Impala convertible away from an apartment building in Lynwood, Deputy Gabriel Ramirez said.

Ramirez said detectives had gotten a telephone call a few minutes earlier that the meticulously customized car, covered with blankets, was parked behind the apartment building in the 3300 block of Carlin Avenue.

Investigators said they were looking for a second suspect in the slaying of Terrance Booker, 26, of Gardena.

Booker--a pharmacy employee with children ages 4, 6 and 8--was accosted by two men after he delivered groceries to a friend in an apartment on El Segundo Boulevard shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Detectives said that although Booker apparently did nothing to stop the men from taking the car, one of them suddenly opened fire. Hit once in the upper body, Booker tried to run, making it almost all the way across the broad boulevard before he collapsed on the pavement and died.

Witnesses said one of the assailants drove off in Booker’s car and the other followed in a blue sports coupe.
