Patrick McEnroe and Richey Reneberg beat Alexander Volkov and Andrei Olhovskiy in doubles, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4.

Detroit center Sergei Fedorov and New York Islander right wing Mick Vukota were suspended and fined $500 each for separate incidents in the first round of the NHL playoffs. They will serve their suspensions at the beginning of next season.
