GOOD ENGLISH? Do not tell Tom Owens of Anaheim that all teachers are perfect. The private investigator has written a new book, “Lying Eyes,” based on his work on behalf of police beating victim Rodney King. Owens says that early in the case, his 14-year-old daughter mentioned in a paper for her high school English teacher what her father was doing. . . . She got her paper back with these teacher comments: “Don’t brag about your dad. King probably got what he deserved.”

Maybe it’s a sentimental favorite: The late Jack Kelly, a longtime Huntington Beach councilman, played Bret’s brother Bart Maverick in the TV hit.
