A 25-year-old Oxnard man was listed in serious condition Sunday at St. John’s Medical Center with multiple stab wounds after a weekend party in El Rio that turned violent.

Armando Reyes was one of four men stabbed by unknown assailants late Saturday after some uninvited guests entered a private party on Balboa Street and refused to leave, officials said.

The conditions of the other three men--Marcario Gomez, 25; Bernabe Franco, 23, and Jesus Garcia, 22--were not available from supervisors at Ventura County Medical Center. All are from Oxnard, officials said.

Ventura County sheriff’s investigators first reported Saturday that three men were shot in a gunfight during a baptismal party. Officials said Sunday, however, that the shots did not strike anyone, but that four men were stabbed.

“We’ve got a bunch of hurt people and a whole crowd of uncooperative victims,” Lt. Paul Anderson said. “Initially, there were some shots, but no one was hit. Then out came the stilettos and they went to work.”

Anderson said that there could be other victims from the melee, but none had come forward and that witnesses were reluctant to tell investigators further details of the incident.

“The investigation will continue, but we’ve got a whole bunch of people saying they don’t know anything,” Anderson said.

No arrests have been made.

Investigators said more than 100 people were attending the baptismal before the fight broke out.
