GTE May Relocate 120 From Thousand Oaks

GTE Corp. said that it will probably relocate about 120 employees from its regional headquarters in Thousand Oaks as part of a reorganization of some of its telephone operations support services.

Previously, the GTE California headquarters in Thousand Oaks handled billing, government affairs and public affairs for GTE telephone operations in California, Hawaii and the Northwest--which includes Washington and Idaho.

Under the reorganization, each of the three regions will now be responsible for those support functions, and the 120 employees will be relocated to various locations. The three regions will continue to report to GTE Telephone Operations in Irving, Tex.

Stamford, Conn.-based GTE is the nation’s largest independent local phone company. GTE California, its local subsidiary, will have about 2,400 employees remaining in Ventura County.
