Memorial Services Set for Oscar Saul

Memorial services for screenwriter and author Oscar Saul will be at 3 p.m. June 4 at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village, 1218 Glendon Ave., Los Angeles.

Saul, 81, died Monday night of bile duct cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, his son, Richard, said Tuesday.

A versatile writer for many media, Saul was particularly noted for his adaptations of well-known works such as Tennessee Williams’ play “A Streetcar Named Desire” for films and television. He wrote one novel, “The Dark Side of Love,” featuring a blind hero, which was published in 1974.

Saul won the Morgan Cox service award from his Writers Guild colleagues in 1990 for teaching at the guild’s Open Door School.

In addition to his son, Saul is survived by a sister, Esther Rubin of New York City.

The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to Saul’s favorite charity, the Foundation for the Junior Blind.
