Summer Splash : The Latest Attractions

What else is new at Southern California theme parks? Here are some of the attractions making their summer debut: Disneyland will premiere a daytime parade based on the upcoming animated movie “The Lion King” on July 1. Ball Road at Santa Ana Freeway, Anaheim.

Knott’s Berry Farm opens “Mystery Lodge” this weekend. (See article, Page SS15.) 8039 Beach Blvd., Buena Park.

Oasis Water Resort will introduce “Creature Fantasy,” a water playground area for non-swimmers ages 2-6. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs.

Raging Waters’ new spiral waterslide, “Vortex,” opens this weekend. Raging Waters Drive, San Dimas.

San Diego Wild Animal Park launches two attractions this weekend: “Kangaroo Encounter,” a wooded area with Australian animals visitors can roam through, and “Lorikeet Landing,” a walk-through aviary featuring the small native Australian birds. San Pasqual Road, Escondido.

Sea World’s “Mission: Bermuda Triangle” opens this weekend. The attraction combines an underwater adventure film with flight-simulator technology evoking a submarine in the Bermuda Triangle. Sea World Drive, San Diego.

Six Flags Magic Mountain will host a children’s concert series in June. The Sports Illustrated Sports Festival, at the park from July 9-24, will let children kick field goals, shoot baskets against an NBA shot clock and play on a major-league-size infield. The park’s Batman fireworks show starts June 9, and the Batman stunt show opens June 18. Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia.

Universal Studios Hollywood is marking its 30th anniverary with “Hollywood Nights,” a nightly celebration that will include “SpectraBlast”, a laser and pyrotechnics show; “Cinemystique: Illusion of the Night,” a magic show, and street entertainment on the studio lot. The studio will also introduce a Broadway-style show based on “The Flintstones” on June 18. Universal City.
