It appears golf is especially popular among the senior set. Golf Card, a 20-year-old golf membership club, commissioned a recent survey by Market Facts of Chicago that found the average age of Golf Card’s 108,000 members nationwide is 61.

A Golf Card membership lets golfers play two complimentary rounds each year at more than 2,400 affiliated golf courses in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and England. California has 43 participating courses. Golf cart rental is required.

Golf Card’s Stay & Play package vacations offer discounts of 10%-30% at 400 resorts in the United States, Canada, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Some top-rated courses are Mission Hills at Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs; Callaway Gardens in Georgia; the Arizona Biltmore; Tamarron Resort in Durango, Colo., and Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta, Canada.Members can choose from 17 Stay & Play resorts in California.

Membership also includes a subscription to Golf Traveler, a quarterly magazine that updates the list of participating golf courses, and a Quest International Card, which saves golfers 50% off hotel room rates and 25% off meals at more than 2,000 hotels worldwide.

A similar program is Golf Access of Southern California. Members get a 50% discount on greens fees at more than 2,100 courses in the United States and Canada. Cart rental is required. There are also savings on golf tours and cruises, and 10% discounts on tour packages at courses such as Hilton Head, S.C.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Palm Springs; Charleston, S.C., and Pinehurst, N.C. While Golf Access also has membership golf courses in every state and many foreign countries, its largest selection is in California and Arizona.

Members also are entitled to a 50% discount off room rates in more than 2,400 hotels worldwide, including Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Westin, Ramada, Holiday Inn and Best Western.

Golf Access members also receive savings discounts of 10%-25% on car rentals from Budget and National.
