Jack Krol, 57, who had a 1-1 record as a major league manager and was a 40-year veteran of professional baseball, died of cancer in Winston-Salem, N.C. Krol, who managed at all levels, was the interim manager of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1978 for two games. Krol also had 10 years’ service in the big leagues, serving as third-base coach for both St. Louis and San Diego.
