Felony charges were formally filed Tuesday against Richard Allen Davis, accused of kidnaping and murdering 12-year-old Polly Klaas.

Davis did not enter a plea at the brief hearing and Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Arnold Rosenfield continued the matter until July 6. During the hearing, Davis waived his right to a speedy trial.

Davis is charged with 11 felony counts in connection with the abduction and murder. He faces the death penalty.

Polly was kidnaped during a slumber party at her Petaluma home Oct. 1. Her body was found Dec. 4 in a wooded area off U.S. 101 near Cloverdale.

Davis was arrested Nov. 30. Prosecutors said he confessed during a six-hour videotaped interview and led police to Polly’s body.

Deputy Public Defender Barry Collins said Davis will enter a not guilty plea.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Greg Jacobs said he would fight any defense motions for a change of venue.
