TOKYO —
A former prosecutor was given a suspended prison sentence Wednesday for beating a witness during questioning in a major bribery scandal.
The Tokyo District Court sentenced Hitoshi Kanazawa, 33, to two years in prison but suspended the sentence for four years, meaning he can avoid prison by maintaining a clean record during that time.
Kanazawa was accused of slapping and kicking a 57-year-old executive during questioning Oct. 14 about bribes paid by construction executives to local politicians.
