MISSION VIEJO : Stage Show Officials Seek Host Families

Share

Temporary homes are being sought for cast members of Up With People, an international stage ensemble that will perform at Mission Viejo High School on Tuesday.

The musical show is sponsored by the city Rotary Club, which will use the proceeds to support its scholarship program.

One of five touring casts, the musical group is composed of about 150 young people from 22 different countries. The performers, between 17 and 25, visit up to a dozen countries during the year.

Organizers hope to find host families to feed, house and provide transportation for cast members to Mission Viejo High School between Monday and Wednesday.

“Because we’re a nonprofit organization, it’s impossible for us to stay in hotels,” group spokesman Garry Poisson said. “But it’s also a great learning experience for the students.”

A few of the countries cast members come from include Sweden, Estonia, Poland and Spain, Poisson said.

“There are some real interesting exchanges,” he said. “The students learn about cultures from all over the world.”

The show will take place at the high school, at 25025 Chrisanta Drive, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults, $7 for students and senior citizens.

Tickets can be purchased at the high school box office.

Dubbed “The World in Motion,” the show takes place during a mock global satellite broadcast and features a broad range of international and local dance and music.

Included in the program is a medley of music from mariachi to gospel and rock.
