Argentine Star Maradona Says He May Quit

BUENOS AIRES — Diego Maradona, disgusted over suggestions that he dictates the team’s roster, threatened Thursday to quit Argentina’s World Cup team.
The soccer star spoke in response to a radio interview with the mother of defender Dario Franco, who was left off the team.
Franco’s mother told radio station La Red her son was not placed on the team because Maradona “dictates the lineup to (Coach Alfio) Basile.” Basile said Franco was excluded because of a leg injury.
Maradona, speaking from Austria, where Argentina plays a tuneup game Saturday, said: “My nerves are in a terrible state, I can’t go on like this.”
He said he would call his wife today before deciding.
