A summary of selected City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside.

CITY COUNCIL

* RECREATION CENTERS--Approved an agreement between the Los Angeles Board of Recreation and Parks and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation that will earmark $830,000 toward a new gymnasium at the Westchester Recreation Center, 7000 W. Manchester Blvd. The project is one of 10 throughout the county to be financed with money from the Los Angeles County 1992 Parks Act.

* GETTY HOUSE--Authorized the Getty House Restoration Foundation to conduct fund-raising events and accept donations to help finance the remodeling and refurbishment of Getty House, the official residence of the mayor. Once restored, the Hancock Park house is to be used to host city receptions and other civic functions. Mayor Richard Riordan declined to make the house his residence upon his election last year.

HOW THEY VOTED

* SEXUAL HARASSMENT--Recommended that Los Angeles Police Chief Willie Williams institute several new policies regarding sexual harassment within his ranks. Among the recommendations was the establishment of an independent civilian unit to investigate complaints of sexual harassment and to develop a comprehensive policy concerning the problem. Current policies on the subject are limited to a few paragraphs scattered in sections of the department’s training manual. Passed 13-0.
