Pasadena police arrested a bicyclist Sunday after he allegedly fired a semiautomatic pistol at a car containing three children shortly after midnight.

Bullets struck the car’s windows, body and tires, but the three boys and a man inside escaped injury, police said.

The shooting occurred at 12:23 a.m. near Penn Street and Los Robles Avenue in Pasadena as the two 12-year-olds and a 14-year-old were returning home from the movies with a 20-year-old Pacoima man, police said.

A man on a bicycle approached their Pontiac Firebird, began firing at it and rode away, Lt. Paul Gales said. Police officers who heard the shots pursued the man and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder, he said.

The suspect, Sheldon Dodd, 20, was being held without bail Sunday. Police would not identify the car’s occupants, but said there is no evidence that they knew Dodd.
