USC Backup Quarterback Ineligible

Share

USC quarterback Kyle Wachholtz has been declared academically ineligible for the 1994 season.

He would have again been a junior backup to senior Rob Johnson. A 6-foot-5, 220-pound player from Corona, Wachholtz has played sporadically the last two seasons.

In Seattle two seasons ago, Wachholtz entered a game USC trailed, 17-10, in the fourth quarter, after Johnson was injured and Reggie Perry was ineffective. In his first game since high school, he completed three of six passes for 31 yards and moved the Trojans to Washington’s 28 before an interception ended the last USC threat.

Playing behind Johnson again in 1993, Wachholtz completed 17 of 25 passes in six appearances.

Last season, Coach John Robinson called Wachholtz the Trojans’ “certain starter” for 1995, but that was before Brad Otton transferred to USC from Weber State. Otton will be a sophomore behind Johnson this season, as will another reserve, Matt Koffler.
