Barney the dinosaur can sing “I Love You” without worrying about the legal consequences, now that agreement has been reached in a court dispute over the song.

The deal was accepted this week by Jean Warren of Everett, who claimed rights to the lyrics, and Lyons Group of Dallas, which owns the dinosaur character. Terms were not disclosed.

Warren sued Lyons 18 months ago, claiming she held the rights to Barney’s unofficial theme song. The words--as any toddler knows--are, “I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family, with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you. Won’t you say you love me too?”

One of Barney’s co-creators heard the tune in a Gymboree class her child attended during the mid-’80s.
