A 13-year-old Port Hueneme girl who was struck by a hit-and-run driver was hospitalized in good condition Friday night, authorities said.

The girl, Missey States, was crossing Ventura Road in the crosswalk when she was struck by a car that was turning off Bard Road, said investigating officer Ron Burns. She was with a friend, who was not injured in the 2:20 p.m. incident.

“She was terrified,” Burns said. “She was dragged 40 feet by the car.”

The driver of the car, identified by Port Hueneme police as Larry Fisher, 49, of Oxnard, was arrested a block from the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony hit and run.

A spokeswoman for St. John’s Regional Medical Center said the girl suffered multiple scrapes.

Burns said Fisher reportedly got out of the car and looked at the girl after she was struck. A security officer at the Port Hueneme naval base witnessed the accident and responded almost immediately. Burns said Fisher then got in his car and began to drive away.
