Just in time for Father’s Day: “The Lion King,” Disney’s latest animated film, received a loud reaction at Sunday’s premiere in Hollywood--but it wasn’t all positive.

In the scene where the main character’s father, Mufasa, dies during a stampede of wildebeest, some young spectators in the El Capitan Theatre could be heard crying, “Are you OK, Daddy?” and “Daddy! Don’t die, Daddy!”

We mention this as a warning for parents who were stuck for explanations after Bambi’s mother bit the dust in that tear-jerker.

Incidentally, for any of Only in L.A.’s 3-year-old readers who have yet to see either film, we apologize for giving away key plot developments.

Project Spaceseed: The L.A. Cacophony Society, a band of practical jokers, has taken note of the large number of people who say they were kidnaped by space aliens “for purposes of genetic research.”

The society feels that the invaders, “in their attempt to collect genetic samples,” have inflicted “needless pain and humiliation” upon earthlings.

To eliminate this nasty problem, society members passed out special packets at a recent UFO expo, encouraging UFO believers to contribute to an Extraterrestrial Sperm Bank.

The Cacophony Society hopes to preclude abductions by sending the samples into outer space “through channels that necessarily must remain undisclosed.”

Addel doot, we hope.

A sign that the Democrats will be buried in November? Not to be disrespectful toward the dead, but Dave Quick of Santa Monica says he was a bit taken aback by a Democratic election flyer whose cover carried a photo of the late John F. Kennedy. It was alongside a notation that Quick’s polling place was a Pierce Brothers Mortuary.

They should be hearing from Godzilla’s lawyers any time: Claude Plum of L.A. saw an automobile commercial on TV in which a monster attacks a city and “the announcer says, ‘This doesn’t frighten Japan but an American car does.’ ”

Plum continues: “The reason that monster doesn’t frighten Japan is because it’s Gorgo and it’s attacking London.”

Ah, yes, we remember that movie because the ending traumatized us. As the lights came on in the theater, we could be heard crying, “Gorgo! Don’t die, Gorgo!”

Promoters of distance races try to attract entrants by offering T-shirts, snacks, etc., and by touting the wonders of the course. The coming L.A. Philharmonic 10-K Run in Encino advertises this feature: “Music at each mile.”
