THOUSAND OAKS : Dixon Joins Race for City Council

Marshall Dixon, a retired general manager of an Illinois auto firm, has announced plans to run for the Thousand Oaks City Council, joining a half-dozen candidates bidding for three open seats.

Dixon, 68, moved to Thousand Oaks from Chicago five years ago to be closer to his children. In watching city politics, Dixon said he has been frustrated with “some of the council members who take an attitude that because they are where they are, they have the right to intrude into every detail of business and development.”

Establishing a pro-business platform, Dixon said he favors “better government and less of it.” And he criticized the “general attitude of some council members that regardless of what it is, they can make it better by meddling.”

Philosophically, Dixon said he frequently agrees with Mayor Alex Fiore, who will retire in November. The other two council members whose terms end this fall, Elois Zeanah and Judy Lazar, have said they will seek reelection.

Because he doesn’t have a big treasury, Dixon said he’ll run a “door-to-door, mall-to-mall campaign,” stumping for votes throughout the city.

Dixon has served as chairman of the board at the Oaknoll Homeowners Assn. and has sat on the administrative board of the United Methodist Church of Westlake Village. He and his wife, Wilma, have three children and six grandchildren.
